Its best to have a full Production crew.

I have always wanted to make my very own movies. I Remember the days I just caught myself on YouTube mindlessly scrolling and Some how I ended up watching behind the scenes footage of films such as “Mission Impossible, fences, The Avengers, etc., and channels that simultaneously showed the scenes and the script. That’s called script to screen. Thats also very interesting because you can see what was cut out from the script. I was always fascinated by how movies were shot and put together like you’re creating something out of nothing. I took a film studies class in high school, and that’s where it all started. So, I have the opportunity to shoot a feature film, and i want just share a little whats it like to film with a two man production crew.

Making a feature film can be a stressful job to pull off, especially if you have a two man crew. Since it’s just the two of you, you have to fill in all production crew roles. That’s not fun when you have to be the director, script supervisor, light department, audio, etc. That can take a toll on you if you do it for hours. Sometimes, I remember feeling mentally drained, shooting only five scenes that took all day into the early morning. 

During pre production is fine. That’s when we get our game plan together. getting locations, actors, and props together. Sometimes, you may experience scheduling conflicts with actors. That can be a big issue. Making sure all the actors’ schedules line up with each other can sometimes be a headache. If one actor doesn’t show up for a scene then we will have to reschedule the whole scene. This can be a problem especially if we rent out a venue. During the film, The audio goes out during the scene. Just imagine you shot a good scene. You go back to your editing station at home to discover that the audio wasn’t captured. That’s the worst.

Audio is the most important part of the film. It doesn’t matter if the footage looks good. Without the sound, you have nothing. Don’t get me started on the camera not being recorded. With a whole lot going on, it can slip your mind.  There have been a time where I forgot to hit the record but on one of our stationary camera because i was so focus on the audio. . So it happens.

Production should have more than two people on the team unless it’s a short film. That would make everything a lot more easier and stress free. With that, every department within production is filled, and everyone has their role and responsibility on the team. You will always run into some problems while filming a short or feature film, but I recommend if you are thinking about filming a feature film, make sure you have a big production team. When writing a script, make sure the writing is something that you can film. Don’t go overboard with it. Stick to what you know and you’ll be just fine.
